|My first free pattern was the Buckle Bag –
Find it for free here
Wow, a lot has changed since my first pattern for this website was released in July 2013! When I started this crochet journey I never imagined it would take me where I am now. I am humbled by the positive response to my patterns and love sharing them with everyone. When I am not working on projects for publication I am always at work on new free patterns. I recently also started knitting again and am working on a site to feature free knitting patterns as well. I just really love seeing what all of you make from my designs! I get so excited when I see a new project go up on Ravelry or get a new email of a finished object. You guys are my inspiration!
|The Jetsetter Sweater appeared
in the May/June 2012 Crochet Today!
I also can’t believe that last October was 5 years since my first design was accepted for publication. The Jetsetter Sweater continues to be one of my most popular designs and one of my favorites. Sometimes I can’t believe that I jumped into designing a sweater when I had never written a pattern before, but that’s just what I did. I had never been so proud of something I had made.
It even made the cover!!
I didn’t start Designing Crochet until July of 2012 and it was really just a place for me to blog about my published patterns. It took a year for me to decide I wanted to self-publish free patterns to share with everyone. The whole process of self-publishing scared me at first. I went to a couple of CGOA conferences, learned everything that I could, and jumped in feet-first! It’s been a great ride so far and I have so many other things I want to do with this blog.
Tutorial Tuesdays just started up this week and those are definitely something I am going to keep doing. This site was always intended to be about more than just free patterns – it is supposed to be helpful in all areas of crocheting, and especially to help you design your own! I plan on continuing the articles about designing your own crochet items. I already wrote about how to design scarves and cowls, and am working on posts about blankets and bags.
If you like, check out all my designs on Ravelry. I’ve been working on several new projects for magazines, about evenly knit and crochet. It’s really busy with a full-time job, a hubby and three little boys to take care of, but I’m working on it. Definitely will always be a work-in-progress. Thanks for coming along the journey with me!
